How do I reverse a posted journal?

Open the posted journal in Accounting → Journals. Under Reverse this journal, choose the Reversal date, write the Reason for reversal and press Reverse journal, then Confirm reversal. Deline posts the exact opposite entry on that date; the original stays in your books and in its history.

Where is it?

In Journals, choose Posted and open the journal. The Reverse this journal section is on the journal's own page. It is there for journals posted from Journals, as long as they have not been reversed already.

What happens?

Deline posts a new journal with every debit and credit swapped, dated on the Reversal date. Both journals stay visible: the original shows Reversed by with the number of the new one, and the new one shows Reversal. A reversal cannot be undone; if you need the entry again, record a new journal. No money moves.

Why is there no Reverse on my journal?

  • The journal came from somewhere else: an entry from bills, payroll, an invoice or a payment is corrected where it came from. The journal shows a pill such as From Bills, From Payroll or From another record.
  • It is an opening balance: correct it with a new journal dated on or after your start date.
  • It is already reversed, or it is itself a Reversal.
  • You are not the owner or the accountant: only they reverse journals.

If something goes wrong

  • The reversal date is in a locked month: choose a date in an open month, or reopen the month first.
