How do I mark a tax period as filed?

In Periods, open the month, lock it, and press Mark filed next to the tax under Filing and corrections. Mark filed only records in your books that you filed the return; Deline does not file it for you. This is available in books kept in US dollars. In books kept in another currency, the month shows a note instead, and you can still lock and reopen it.

What do I need first?

The month must be locked: until then Deline says "Lock the period before marking it filed." Under Filed status each tax shows Filed or Not filed: Sales tax, and Income tax (whole calendar year). Press Mark filed, answer Which return was filed, and when?, and confirm. Everyone except viewers can mark a return filed.

What if a filed month needs a correction?

The usual way is to post the correction in the current open month. A filed month cannot be reopened the ordinary way; Deline says "This month is marked as filed. Reopen it with Reopen filed period, which records the amended return."

  • The owner presses Reopen filed period…, types REOPEN FILED PERIOD, writes the reason and presses Reopen filed period. Deline adds a task to file an amended return under Tasks.
  • Everyone else presses Ask the owner to reopen…, writes the reason and presses Send request. The request shows Waiting for the owner.

How does the owner approve a request?

Under Reopen requests, press Approve…, add a note for the record and press Approve and reopen. Or press Decline… and say why.

Can a filed mark be taken back?

Yes, by the owner, with Withdraw filed mark once the month is open again.
