How does Deline handle invoices and payments in a foreign currency?

You can issue an invoice in another currency than your books. The draft carries the exchange rate for the invoice date, and the books record the invoice in your own currency at that rate. When the customer pays, the difference between the two rates is recorded for you as a currency gain or loss.

What do I have to do?

  • Confirm the rate on the draft before you issue it. If it is missing or changed, Deline says "The exchange rate on this invoice needs a fresh check. Confirm the rate in the draft, then issue again."
  • Record payments for the amount that actually arrived. See Record a partial payment in a foreign currency on a EUR invoice.

How do I check the month-end?

Currency close in the books checks which foreign-currency balances have been valued at a closing date and what is left: "This reads the books without posting changes." It shows Close complete or what is To resolve.

What is not covered?

Bank accounts in another currency than your books can be imported and kept, but "Your books can only reconcile accounts kept in … for now." Record those payments as bills or expenses with the exchange rate.
