Why can't I create a credit note for this invoice?

A credit note corrects an issued invoice, so the invoice must be issued first. A draft has no number and nothing to correct: you simply change the draft. Deline also refuses a credit note that would credit more than the invoice still has.

The messages

The books refuse the credit note with one of these:

  • "Only an issued invoice can be credited. Issue the invoice first, then create the credit note.": the invoice is still a draft. Edit the draft instead, or issue it first.
  • "The total credit is more than the original invoice. Lower a quantity and try again.": earlier credit notes already cover part of it. Credit only what remains.
  • "The credit quantity for “…” is more than what is left to credit on that line.": lower the quantity on that line.
  • "These quantities round to a zero credit. Increase a quantity or include another line.": the credit would be zero.
  • "Another credit changed what is left to credit. Refresh the invoice, then try again.": someone else credited the invoice meanwhile. Reload and try again.

How do I credit the whole invoice?

Open the issued invoice, open Manage invoice, press Create credit note and then Credit all remaining. See Create a credit note for an invoice.
