Has my customer's payment arrived, or is it still on its way?

An invoice shows Paid only when a payment is recorded on it. A card payment through Stripe is recorded once Stripe confirms it; a bank transfer is recorded when you record it or match the bank line. Until then the invoice stays unpaid or Partially paid, so what you see is what is actually in your books.

Card payments

While Stripe confirms a card payment, the invoice says "A payment is being confirmed." When it is done: "Paid in full." The money goes to your Stripe account first; Stripe pays it out to your bank later, minus its fee. See My card payout is less than the invoice. How do I record the fees?

Bank transfers

Deline does not mark an invoice paid just because money moved. Record the payment on the invoice, or match the bank line to the invoice in Reconcile. A part payment leaves the invoice Partially paid with the rest still due.

If something goes wrong

  • "Card payment could not be updated. Try again."
